In May 2026, York Musical Theatre Company had the pleasure of presenting Calendar Girls: The Musical, bringing this heart-warming and wonderfully uplifting story to the stage.

Based on the beloved film and inspired by a remarkable true story, the musical combines laughter, friendship, courage, and community spirit with a memorable score by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth.

When a group of ordinary women from a Yorkshire Women’s Institute decide to create an unconventional calendar to raise money for a local hospital, their daring idea quickly captures the imagination of their community. What begins as a simple fundraising project grows into something much bigger, celebrating friendship, resilience, and the extraordinary things that can happen when people come together for a cause close to their hearts.

Featuring a delightful mix of humour, heartfelt moments, and uplifting musical numbers, Calendar Girls: The Musical gave our cast the opportunity to tell a story that is both wonderfully entertaining and deeply moving. From the warmth and camaraderie of the WI to the courage it takes to step outside our comfort zones, every scene celebrated the strength found in friendship and community.

With an enthusiastic cast, vibrant musical performances, and plenty of Yorkshire spirit, our production was a joyful celebration of friendship, laughter, love, and the importance of supporting one another. Audiences were invited to laugh, shed a tear, and leave the theatre reminded that sometimes the most extraordinary stories can come from the most ordinary people.
