Is it for me and how do I join?

Our main rehearsal venue is Poppleton Methodist Church Hall.

If you are aged 16 or over then why not audition to join the Company? We love welcoming new members!

The Company holds auditions to ensure that all its members are able to sing in tune. New member auditions are held regularly so please e-mail info@yorkmusicaltheatrecompany.org.uk to request an audition form. 

We have an annual membership fee which can be paid in full from 1st July each year, or in instalments if paying in full isn't possible. This covers a contribution towards rehearsal costs but most importantly towards the cost of insuring each member for both rehearsals and the performances themselves. It's considerably cheap compared to lots of other hobbies!

Aside from performing on stage are there other ways in which I can be involved?

We need lots of help behind the scenes! Putting on a show is a significant undertaking and we also need an army of volunteers, friends and helpers for a range of jobs such as Stage Crew, Dressers, Costume Planning and Sourcing, Make up, Props, Marketing to name just a few.

Executive Committee - Can I stand for election?

Each year the Executive Committee members must retire and the Annual General Meeting elects the new Executive Committee. (Existing Executive Committee members are eligible for re-election.) We always welcome any members who would like to stand for the Executive Committee, you get a lot out of it if you put a lot in!

 

As a registered charity, the Company is managed on behalf of its members by an Executive Committee. The Committee meets at least four times a year to plan and manage the Company, to appoint a Production Manager, Production Team, a Production Committee and an Audition Panel for each production and to appoint a Director, Choreographer and Musical Director (MD). The Committee is also responsible for choosing productions to be performed and does this on the basis of availability for amateur performance, number and type of parts/chorus work, likely popularity/box office success etc.
