About Us

York Musical Theatre Company was founded in 1902 under its former name of York Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society. The Company changed its name on reaching its centenary in 2002.
One of the leading Amateur Companies in York the Company stages a major musical at York Theatre Royal in May each year and a second show at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre in the autumn.
Other productions include What The Dickens! - a tribute to the life and time of Charles Dickens - which is regularly performed at Christmas alongside Christmas Crackers comprising seasonal music and readings.
Open auditions are held for all our shows and new members are always welcome. The annual subscription is £30 payable on 1 June or when you join. In addition, we have a performance fee for each production which varies from £10 for a concert to £30 for a production at York Theatre Royal.
